Rolf was a Holocaust survivor. His mother and sister were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust. His father died following injuries that he sustained while serving in the British army during World War Two.
At the age of 14, Rolf and an aunt, made their way to Israel. There, Rolf grew up, went to work, married and raised a beautiful family.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Sophie, and he is survived by his children and grandchildren.
Meeting and getting to know Rolf was an honor. He was the most delightful, dear and hospitable man. He spoke easily of his life.
The Ballins are considered one of the most important families that lived in Duderstadt. Rolf's grandfather, Siegfried Ballin was a businessman who built and ran a factory that provided an income to the city.
During Rolf's life, he returned to Duderstadt where he was honored by the community there. Rolf was able to visit his grandparents' home and the cemetery. A few years ago, he was too ill to return to Duderstadt when that city wished to honor him. So his granddaughter went in his stead and received it for him.
