MAIER, Dr. Walter J., 89, Tucson, Arizona, passed away November 7, 2015 in his home, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Dillingen, Germany to Pauline and David, Walter emigrated with his family to the U.S. in 1938. He was a decorated WWII veteran, an Exxon research engineer for 12 years, and a Professor of Environmental Engineering (PhD, Cornell University, 1966) at the University of Minnesota for 30 years. He was committed to the environment and to education, an avid hiker and skier, and dedicated family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Susanne; two sisters, four children and four grandchildren. Services will be private. Arrangements by NEPTUNE SOCIETY.
