(obituary) PAUL LEVY September 12, 1998 Paul E. Levy, of Washington Street, Carbondale, died Saturday at home following an illness. Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Emil and Johanna Ermann Levy. Before retiring in 1983, he was the co-owner of both the Sperling and Imperial Tobacco companies of Wilkes-Barre. He was active in the tobacco industry organizations, having served as e a member of the board of directors, and as a past state treasurer of the Penna. Association of Candy and Tobacco distributors. He was a member of Temple Israel, Scranton, the Jewish Community Center, B'Nai B'Rith, the Carbondale Lodge F&AM, the Keystone Consistory, the Irem Temple Shrine and country club. He was a 32 degree mason, and he was active in numerous other civic and religious organizations. His wife, of 57 years, is the former Anne Bronsky. He was preceded in death by a son, Ellis Richard Levy, in 1989. Surviving are several cousins. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. it Monday in the Ziman Funeral Home Inc., 612 Gibson St., Scranton, with y services by Rabbi David Geffen. Interment will be in Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the family home. Memorial donations may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the VNA Hospice, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
